Frequently Asked Questions

  • It can be confusing to know whether your child’s behaviors warrant seeking the help of a child psychologist.  In general, if you are concerned, it is important to know that the sooner you get help the sooner your child will learn skills to be successful. If any of the following apply to your child/teen pay attention to your instincts and get them help.

    •   If your child’s behaviors are causing you to “walk on eggshells” at home and disrupting your family life

    •    If  your teen’s behaviors or emotions are causing her/him to miss out on events or activities they want to do or need to do (go to school, try out for a team, have a sleepover)

    • If your child seems unusually afraid, irritable, or angry

    •  If your child is struggling to do developmentally appropriate tasks independently (sleep alone; ask a teacher for help etc.)

    •  If there is a history of mental illness or substance abuse in your family

  • Dr. Julie charges $180 for a 50-minute therapy session. School meetings, telephone calls, consultations, and professional collaboration fees vary. Fees are due at the time of service and can be paid by credit card, HAS card, check, or cash. Feel free to contact Dr. Julie if you have any questions about fees.

  • Dr. Julie does not contract with Insurance companies and is considered an “Out-of-Network” provider. As such, payment is due at the time of the session. Clients with insurance coverage may then request a statement of payments to submit to their insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement. Before utilizing this option, clients should inquire with their insurance provider about their Out-of-Network mental health benefits as well as other payment options such as a health savings or flexible spending plan.  If you have any questions about navigating your benefits, please feel free to ask Dr. Julie.

  • Scheduling is done through the patient portal. Once a session is booked the time is reserved for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule your time please do so through the patient portal. If the portal indicates that you must call me to cancel that means you are within the “late cancel” time frame. This means you are within 48 hours of the designated appointment time and you will be charged full rate for this time despite your cancellation.  I have learned that when appointments are cancelled in this time frame it is unlikely that I will be able to fill this appointment slot with another client. As a small business I need to fill my billing hours for my business to be sustainable. In addition many clients are getting their children out of school to attend therapy so it is not fair for me to allow after school hours to go unused with no incentive to attend.

  • Learning new skills takes time. Practicing using this new language and more helpful thinking patterns takes time. Behavior change takes time. That said, we will decide together what our treatment goals are and decide together when you are ready to stop treatment.
